More veggies (Arugala and the rest of the fried zucchini that were ’snacks’. from The Denison Farm, and pork from Rolf’s in Albany. The rice, is Rice O Roni spanish rice.

I should probably start making my own Rice O Roni. I’d assume I can get vermacelli at Albany CoOp or Whole Foods..

A quick dinner on Wednesday night. The Bacon is from Rolf’s Pork Store in Albany.

All the produce is from The Denison Farm C.S.A. The salad has boiled beets and cucumbers in it.

I like firm omelets (and very runny sunny side up) eggs. The Arugala was quickly wilted in some bacon fat before I made the eggs. I shaved some Parmagianno Regianno into the eggs too. Very tasty :)

I’ve been loving the veggies and talking to other members from the Denison Farm C.S.A. this summer.  Unfortunately, I must admit that I talk about local meats way more then actually purchase them for our house. Too that end, I couldn’t pass up chicken legs for fifty eight cents a pound last week.  I bought 8 pounds.  4 are in the freezer to smoke later this summer, and the other 4 went into a braise for several meals.

The first meal was a pasta with zucchini, and swiss chard.  This has some large chunks of chicken that spent about an hour cooking in the sauce before being used.  Certainly not my favorite meal, as I forgot that swiss chard doesn’t taste anything like spinach.  It didn’t really work with the tomato.

4 hours later, and the chicken legs completely broke down.  I boned them, shredded them, and put the pot of sauce in the fridge to be defatted the next day.  Last night I made a nice polenta with the shredded chicken stirred into it and topped with Denison Farm broccoli.

My parents paid us a visit this weekend.  After a full day climbing ladders and running wires, we were beat and my Dad requested a “burger and a beer”.  The first thought was Brown’s , but since it was Saturday night, none of us wanted to deal with the crowds.  I suggested The Irish Mist, in South Troy.  We’ve been going there for drinks quite a bit lately, and have eaten there a few times.

We started with a couple of bowls of onion soup, that were shard.  It was very good.. It wasn’t all that salty, and was made with leeks, shallots, and onions.

We also (ok, I also) had an order of wings.  The Irish Mist is the only restaurant that I know of in the Capital Region that serves their wings dry.  The battered wings were really crispy, and the hot sauce tasted like Frank’s Red Hot without the standard butter found in other wing sauces.

Two of us had the Lamb Stew.  The Irish Mist has recently tweaked this entree.  The last time I ordered it, there was so much broth, that it fealt more like a soup then a stew.   The newly replated version (They changed the shape of the bowl), was so much heartier.  The leftovers from the two servings served three of us for lunch the next day!

I was thrilled that my parents enjoyed dinner, and that we stayed in Troy :)
